Abstract: Dialectics, a fundamental methodology of philosophy and logic, is also considered an integral tool for explaining the relationship between being and thought, and for accounting for social and historical development. Dialectics owes much to Hegel and Marx for its rapid development. Marx modified the spiritualist tendencies and “unreality” of Hegel’s dialectics, and redefined the relationship between subject and object. Research in Marxist semiotics is often devoted to finding potential semiotic factors or identifying Marxist concepts and critiquing their derivative theories. However, taking a dialectical perspective, this article goes back to the philosophical basis for semiosis, comparing Saussure and Pierce’s semiotic ideas. It aims to demonstrate the rationality of “object” and “interpretant” found in Pierce’s trichotomy.
