Abstract: This paper endeavours to compare Course in General Linguistics (edited by Charles Bally and Albert Sechehaye) with Saussure’s Third Course of Lectures on General Linguistics (edited by Eisuke Komatsu and Roy Harris) in terms of the arrangement of their content and chapters. Course in General Linguistics is found to reflect Saussure’s linguistic thoughts to a larger extent, except for the sequencing of the chapter “Linguistic Geography Changes”. In addition, the content of Course in General Linguistics is more comprehensive and abundant than that of the other volume, and hence irreplaceable in the history of linguistics.
Keywords: Saussure F. de., Course in General Linguistics, linguistic semiotics, history of linguistics, linguistic theory
