The field of semiotics has been regarded as the common denominator of the liberal arts in that it contributes to the development of modern performance theory. By using a survey to examine performance theory in different fields from the perspective of general performance theory, this paper explores the theory of performance semiotics and generalises the characteristics of different types of performing text.
